Script to auto put "/" in date

Is there a way to automatically put the "/" into the date field when a date is entered? I have tried several methods and nothing seems to work. Thanks in advance for any help.

What is wrong with using the Date type field and setting the format for that object?

Note, when you access this field with FormCalc or JavaScript, you will want to use the 'fomattedValue' property to obtain the date string in the selected or set format value, otherwise you will have the UTC format returned.

Is there anyway to post a specific example. I have only been dealing with LiveCycle a few months and I am still trying to figure much of it out. I have experimented with the "Patterns" of the date field and still cannot get the "/" to auto enter when a date is being typed.

I appreciate the response.
