Simple function for a text field

Hello! I know nothing about scripting, but was hoping that I'd be able to create a simple script for a form I created in Designer. I've read all of the Help and now feel even more lost than before I read it! Basically, I have two fields - a dropdown list and a text field. I need the text field to display a certain data depending on what the user selects in the dropdown list. For example, if the dropdown list has product names, and a user selects a product, the text field should display the product price with the $ sign. Could someone please help me? Thank you very much in advance!

Hi redstar,

The Help documentation is lacking as far as scripting goes, but scripting is almost always needed for good forms with nice usability features. There are lots of articles on scripting for PDF forms here in the Learning Center that are scripting focused and provide sample files with scripts so you can examine the code used. One in particular you should read is-
http://www.acrobatusers.com/tutorials/2007/js_list_combo_livecycle
For other scriptnig topics just enter "JavaScript" in the serach filter for topics in the Learning Center.

If you are interested in learning more about what you are doing with scripting, since you will be using scripts in your forms, you should consider a membership to www.pdfscripting.com where you'll find over 11 hours of training videos on scripting in Acrobat and PDF. My company produces and develops the site but it is the most comprehensive resource you'll find on this subject.

Hope this helps,

Dimitri
