Hi everyone,
 
I've created a form in Livecycle designer and have inserted a "submit by email" button so that the form data can be sent by email. When I test the file by clicking the button, a dialogue box comes up with the following information:
 
Please indicate the option which best describes how you send mail.
1) Desktop Email Application
Choose this option if you currently use an email application such as Microsoft Outlook, Eudora, or Mail.
 
2) Internet Email
Choose this option if you currently use an internet email service such as Yahoo or Microsoft Hotmail. You will then need to save your form and return it manually to test [at] test [dot] com using your internet email service.
 
I chose the first option, ie. Desktop Email Application, but after clicking OK my email application didn't open at all. I'm currently testing on a Mac computer and I have Microsoft Outlook for Mac installed. Does anyone know why this has happened? It works when I test on a PC, ie. Outlook for Window opens up successfully.
 
Also, if the user needs to choose option 2, ie. Internet Email, how will they be able to save the form data and email it manually if this form has not had any usage rights applied? We've chosen not to apply usage rights as this would limit the number of users being able to return the form. Instead we chose to just have people email back the form data file, but if they can't save the full form, how can they access the data file in order to email it back?

GWH,

You actually have to launch Apple Mail (and fill out a few of the first questions) in order to change your default email client to Outlook. This site gives a great example with screenshots: http://www.askdavetaylor.com/how_do_i_set_my_default_email_program_on_mac_os_x.php

If you are sending back only the fdf, you do not need to enable usage rights on the form. This only needs to be enabled if you are emailing back the entire PDF.

Thanks for the reply,

You mentioned about having to change the default email application. This is the answer for myself but what about people who are using the form on either windows or mac who have the same problem? I'm worried that when I deploy the form and they click the submit button, that they will have the same problem and because they wouldn't know about changing the default email application, they may think the form is broken. How do I ensure that the submit button will work for everyone?

With regard to the second question, I understand that I don't need to enable usage rights on the form if only the data file is being sent back. My concern is that if the user has internet email, then how will they get access to the xml file and attach it manually?

The data file in my case is an xml file - not an fdf file as I created the form in Livecycle Designer, not Acrobat.

Can you explain further?

Ok, I've read a lot of posts on this forum and can't seem to find what I need. I have a form and I've got my submit button and it works to send the completed form but here's my issues: the completed form is sent out and its still editable (not read only). The file size is huge like 4mg for 1 page. Then anyone with Iphones can not open it but blackberry users can. Any ideas?

Check out: http://www.PDFEmail.netSubmit PDF, or XDP, FDF, XML, XFDF and PDFEmail.net scripts can merge the data with a blank form, and send the submission attached to an e-mail using SMTP Server w/o any 3rd party e-mail client-side software. Send the client a message (Sent/Error), or redirect the client to a URL (Sent/Error).

Client-Side: Users need Adobe Reader and an internet connection.
Server-Side requirements: ASP.net web server, SMTP Host.
