Hello everybody I just join the community and I been enjoying what I been reading here on the forums. I’m pretty new to LiveCycle and found it so far to be a easy application to use. I do have some question on a few issues I been having.

1. After running the Forums Wizard I see that all the text fields don’t line up with the line in a PDF file when you type in words. It sort of floats above the space. Is there a way to make the text field line, line up with the lines on the form?

2. When I use the tabbing feature from field to field it jumps around the form and not in any order that is should. Is there a way to define where the tab should jump to each time and not everywhere?

These are the main two issues I have having of current and if anybody has some insight on how to fix them I thank you for your reply to my message here.

Please review the two posts on static data manipulation in designer. The Pro addressed my questions about the same thing.

I'm not sure. I read your post but don't think I'm looking for same information you were. I pretty much was trying to line up my text boxs on lines. Example here
http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/1132201/Test%20Forums.pdf
I made a document in word and then used LiveCycle to auto fill in the fields for text but they don't seem to quite line up with the lines, their more floating over them. But the text fields fill in the areas that are actives when in a PDF reader.

The reply answer to the tabbing problem is still there. I follow the menu Forums and then something about edit area or something and there was no such menu. So not sure what that was in regard to if it was my question or not or something else.

Thanks,
Kuroo

I played with your form and noticed it's a form that was converted to PDF. Anyhow, to get it as close to the line as possible:

1) Click the paragraph tab
2) Change to the line spacing to Exactly and put in 4pts. That's the closets I could get text to the line.

Also I noticed on your form that when people fill it out and when they get towards the end of the lines they're text will keep scrolling. You might want to add 'Limit Length to Visible Area' this way they have to go to the next line.

LiveCycle Designer forms have to be saved as a PDF for users with Reader to access. LiveCycle Designer is for design only, this is different than using the AcroForm tool bar. So one can open a LiveCycle Designer form with Acrobat and then through the "Forms" menu option open the form in LiveCycle Designer.

AcroForms and LiveCycle Designer create forms that can be used by Acrobat and Reader but the underlying technology are very different. This difference arose from how Acrobat and JetForms initially approached form design for use by the PDF format. Adobe purchased JetForms and used JetForms for LiveCycle Designer.

Thanks for your reply I have a few more questions tho. There tons of information on this but nothing really out there that is crystal clear on all of this. So just to clarify some things and understanding of it all. I made this form from a Word Document. I should have used the Abode Acrobat Professional Reader to make this form and not LiveCycle? If that true how can I still add the E-Mail and Print buttons that LiveCycle uses in Abode Acrobat Professional Reader? The form I have was not in a PDF format, if so what was it in? Sorry for asking questions that sound a little to N00B but it just a little confusing for me.
Thanks

It's okay I started out like that too. I designed a lot of my company's forms in Microsoft Word, converted them to PDF and then added text fields to the sections that needed user input.

I decided afterwards to go straight to designing all the forms in LiveCycle because my company's bosses are always making changes to the forms so it's a lot easier doing it through LiveCycle or Acrobat than converting from Word to PDF because you end up having to put text fields all over again to all your sections.

For now I guess I will be doing it the Word --> PDF way in till I take that next step. The last question I have is that the Abode Acrobat Professional Reader can make interactive PDF files but you can't add e-mail to and print buttons like in Livecycle correct? If not, then how does one do this?

Tech264,

That sounds painful- have you checked out the Replace Pages function? If the changes your bosses make are not too drastic, with an AcroForm you just use Replace pages and the new content is inserted while leaving your form fields in place. Even if you have to tweak them for placement adjustments its a lot easier than recreating all the fields.

Kuroo- yes you can add print and email buttons to an AcroForm ( created in Acrobat Pro, not LiveCycle Designer). You just have to add the buttons and select those actions for them whereas LiveCycle Designer asks you if you want to add those when you first start making a form and then places them on the form for you. How to do it- In Acrobat add a button to your form. In the Properties dialog under the Actions tab choose Submit a Form in the drop down for "Select Action." In the next dialog presented in the field next to "Enter an URL for this Link" add mailto:youremailaddress.com and choose how you want the data submitted in the other radio buttons (FDF, Whole PDF etc).

For the Print button in the Properites dialog for that button under the Action tab select Execute a Menu Item from the drop down next to "Select an Action" Click the Add button and in the next dialog choose the File ->Print option for the Menu Item list.Hope this helps,

Dimitri

Sorry but were you talking about the field in LiveCycle or Acrobat Professional program?

1. what lines on the form are you talking about?

2. Window - Tab Order -> set to Automatic, then everything will be in order
