Version Safe

Over the many versions of Acrobat I have a hard time making forms which are "version safe". In other words, having the form react the same for any version of Acrobat which opens it.

Is there a way to make the PDF react correctly no matter what version it's opened in? My recent problem is that my version 8 livecycle forms do not work correctly with acrobat reader 9.

Thoughts?

Without seeing your forms it's difficult to say why they're not working in 9 - we of course expect to see issues with documents not working in earlier versions of Reader or Acrobat, but if later versions have problems it's usually because of the changes to security (such as Reader's access to networks etc.) or a problem with old-style Javascript. If it doesn't break any confidentiality rules can you post us a link to one of the troublesome forms, or make us one as an example?

Thank you for the reponse. I've seen problems time and time again when a new version of Acrobat is introduced the pervious versions coding caused problems in the next version. The problem I'm seeing now is that the layers are not revealed correctly in version 9 when version 8 was the authoring program.

EXAMPLE:

https://www.dealercentral.net/portal/download.aspx?file=/Document%20Imaging/eftinvoices-05212008.pdf

The problem we had when going from version 7 to version 8 was the barcodes would not translate properly in Reader 8 when the form was authored in version 7. When we went to version 8 authoring I had to do all the forms again (version 8) and do a corporate rollout of version 8 reader. Now with version 9's prompts for update (against the version 8 reader) we are starting to see problems again (thus the question about version safe).

Thanks,
