Acrobat 8.1 Not Starting

I have upgraded from Acro Prof 8.0 to 8.1 using the patch, and Acrobat won't start. I find the problem is in eight api that are in the plug-ins folder: checkers, editor, EWH32, MakeAccessible, etc. If they are disabled Acrobat 8.1 starts, but the plug-ins are not working. It could be that the patch does not change the Registry completely. Have you got an updated patch or workaround?

Hi jaydesilva,

There is an entire section on troubleshooting plug-in conflicts in the technical support troubleshooting guide for Windows 2000 or XP available at: http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=333213&sliceId=2If you are using Vista, you can use the following troubleshooting guide available at:

Thanks Lori,
I tried one or two suggestions like removing all other versions of acrobat (I keep version 4 because it is the only version that can properly and easily modify the bookmarks list - essential in my work), but it still won't start.

Thanks for your help though, I am now resigned to live with it.
