Can someone tell me what would be the best way to program the navigational buttons on the bottom and menu categories on this layout:

I tried researching the answer on this board, but there were a couple of different answers.
I've designed numerous projects in Macromedia Flash and Director, but this is my first Acrobat project and I'm clueless as to how to program the buttons. I'm using Adobe Acrobat 9 Professional Extended.
I designed the interface in inDesign CS3 and have the option of directly exporting to PDFs or can import the PDFs into Acrobat 9.
The classroom in a book I bought is virtually useless, and I'm at a loss.
Thanks for any help.
JavaScript is the programming language used to extend Acrobat- based on Core JavaScript but with an Acrobat specific DOM.
I believe Ted's 101 Forms eTips has examples of the Next and Previous page button scripts http://www.acrobatusers.com/articles/2007/11/101_forms_etips_article
You'll find lots of other great stuff in that doc too.
For the left side panel you could create Bookmarks in Acrobat- there are good instructions in Acrobat's Help file on doing that. But, Bookmarks would show up in the Bookmark Panel in Acrobat without the graphic as you have it. You can set the PDF to open with the bookmark panel showing from Document Properties- Initial View settings.
If you want to use the on-page panel you have with the graphic then you can create links using the Link tool in Acrobat- again pretty good instructions on link creartion can be found in the Acrobat Help file.
More sophisticated navigation techniques and good explanations of how navigation works in PDFs can be found at www.pdfscripting.com's subscription site.
If you want to see some really great examples of navigation in action check out Bob Connolly's site www.pdfpictures.com
Hope this helps,
