Acrobat 9 Pro File Properties Window

I recently upgraded from Acr 8 Pro to Acr 9.3.2 Pro. When I open a pdf file and open the file properties window, the window is transparent. All the information seems to be there, but there is no background so I can't easily read the information against whatever the page is showing. This does not happen with the preferences window, just the file properties window.

I've repaired the installation, but that doesn't seem to solve the problem.

Is there some setting that needs to be modified? Do I need to do a complete removal and re-install? Any advice?

TIA.

It certainly shouldn't be doing that, but it's difficult to know the cause, other than it's a corruption somewhere. What operating system are you using, and did you do a clean install of A9?

Uninstalling and reinstalling doesn't necessarily remove everything it should, so if you're on Windows, and a normal re-install doesn't fix it, I suggest using the Microsoft cleaner to erase Acrobat entirely, then re-install it.

Download from http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;290301

Run it, choose Acrobat as the thing you want to remove, and reboot as soon as it's finished. Take note that your license activation will be deleted too, so you'll have to re-enter the serial number.

Thanks for your quick response. I apologize for not including OS info. This was my first post and I mistakenly assumed that the information selected in the drop-down lists would be accessible to forum users.

I'm running on WinXP Pro, with all updates installed. I removed Acrobat 8 as directed by the instructions, using Windows Add or Remove Programs, installed Acr 9, then updated to latest version (9.3.2)

I will try again with the A/R wizard and if no fix, then with the MS cleaner, and report back.

I removed Acrobat 9 via Windows Add/Remove wizard. Then re-installed. Tested with several small pdf files. The problem with the properties window did not recur. I updated to 9.3.2. Problem still fixed. But then I opened a graphics rich file, the one with which I first noticed the problem. The properties window showed transparent again. I rebooted and tried with smaller files again, no problem. Re-booting, BTW, did not work the first time this happened, don't why it was able to reset itself this time. Anyway, I am considering that this particular file must be corrupt in some way. I have already finished with the file, so I don't need to open again---and don't particularly want to have to go through the whole process of removing and installing again. So I'm going to leave well enough alone and hope it doesn't happen again.

Any comment would still be welcome though.

Thanks.

Hmm.. it's possible it's an issue with your graphics card / driver - if for some reason the content of the PDF is too taxing for the card to render, it can cause all manner of weird artifacts on the rest of the screen. Can you try the same file on another computer, or share it with us?

Well, this is really weird now. I was starting to upload the "offending" file to my web site so you could download it and try it, when I decided I would try Reader first.

I opened the file in Reader 9, went to properties and ... no problem. So it probably isn't the graphics card/driver. I didn't think it would be as I use graphics intensively and extensively. I produce a full-colour, photo-rich, 20-page magazine-style newsletter 8 times a year, using CS3 and now CS5, but thought it would be worth a try.

Then on a whim, I opened it up in Acrobat again, and---guess what?---the properties window was normal. I've tried it several more times and still no problem. I haven't done anything else to my system since the problem occurred this morning.

So it might be something else my workstation does in the background that might be taking resources away from Acrobat at certain times. This morning my daily system backup ran overtime---probably because of the changes I made yesterday. Might this consume so many resources that the display would be overwhelmed?

I guess I will just keep an eye on it and document what else I am working on or what the workstation is doing in the background if it happens again. If I learn anything else, I will post it here.

Thanks.
