Acrobat 9 Pro fill-in issue

I just reinstalled Acrobat 9 Pro on a users computer because PDFs weren't opening for user.

So I logged in with admin credentials and uninstalled - rebooted then installed acrobat. But now user states cannot fill out PDFs. At first I thought, maybe Reader is the default PDF viewer--but it wasn't pro was the default. I tried it myself, opened up a local PDF (on desktop) in 9 pro and selected a field to enter text in--and it would not enter the keys I typed.

I did notice she had Reader 6 on users computer, would this matter? I also noticed on another user's computer that if you have the ability to change the PDF form, it should indicate on the top of the PDF that the form can be modified. I don't even see that pop up on this users computer with PRO installed.

Anyways, I tried to do a repair and I ran into a "Error 1920 Service Print Spooler (spooler) failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient Privilages to start system services."--but I'm logged in as admin and what more rights would I need?

Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Acrobat 9.4, Windows

Adobe recommends against having both Acrobat and Reader on the same system prior to version 9. They also advise against having mixed version numbers for Acrobat or Reader.

You should uninstall both Reader and Acrobat. Then install Acrobat only.

In many regards I will disagree with Adobe's missive against having both installed. We've been doing so since Version 7 with no ill effects. Adobe has only officially supported it since Reader/Acrobat 9, however it has been unofficially available since Reader 7. Our default installation is Adobe Reader then Acrobat is installed alongside Reader for those that need it.

The primary thing is that you have to manage the two products independently of each other. Keeping in mind that they will step on each others toes with the .PDF file extension, applications\PDF MIME type and the battle of wills over which will open in a browser. The hint here is set everything to either Reader *OR* Acrobat - don't try to mix them.

The issue you are running into here has more to an issue with Reader 6 itself than Reader being installed. The base installation between Reader and Acrobat version 6 and prior was more mixed, in that some Reader components would negatively interact with Acrobat components and vice versa. In other words, had the person had Reader 7 installed I do not think you would have run into this issue.

This is a known bug of the 9.0 version : update it.
