Acrobat 9 Standard - C++ Runtime Error

I am getting errors when I open PDFs causing acrobat to close, most of the time it reads:

Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library:

Runtime Error!

Program: C:\ blah blah\Acrobat.exe

This application has requested the RUntime to terminate it in an unusual way.

I am also getting a similar runtime error that says: "abnormal program termination", and then closes.

I read somewhere that renaming the Updater.api might fix the problem, but that doesn't seem to work for me.

Any help would be appreciated!

Working in XP Professional, Acrobat 9 Standard (have most recent updates - I think)

My Product Information:
Acrobat Standard 9.2, Windows

Similar problem but with Acrobat 10 Pro running under Windows 7 Ultimate.

Adobe support has not been helpful.

This problem occurs when viewing PDF files from websites using the IE 8. If I use Opera, Safari, or Chrome the problem does not occur. With Firefox I do not get that message but after closing Firefox I am prompted to send and error report.

I finally solved my problem.I am using PitStop Pro. By disabling it temporarily when accessing PDF files via the Internet the error message no longer appears.

Phew!
