Acrobat keeps un-maximizing on me

I just upgraded from Acrobat 7 Standard to Acrobat 8 Professional and I'm trying to make Acrobat 8 behave like Acrobat 7 as much as possible. One thing I'm having trouble with is the size of the window. I usually like to keep most of my application windows maximized and switch to the one I need with Alt+Tab. However, when I initially open Acrobat 8, the window is always about half of the screen size. How can I force it to open maximized (or at least have it remember the last size so that I could resize the window to practically-maximized)?

I also have a problem when I minimize the window and then later open a new document by double-clicking a PDF file from Windows Explorer. I would have expected Acrobat to restore the window to its previous maximized state. However, I again get the half-size window, which I then have to maximize. Any help? Thanks.

Hi --

How annoying. I've never heard of this particular issue, but I wonder if it could be resolved if you repair the program. Choose Help > Repair Acrobat Installation. The program will evaluate and fix anything that is out of sorts, and hopefully your issue is gone.donna.

I'm having annoying window size management problems as well. This is the second time they've installed Acrobat 8 Professional, and it works the same. Basically, when I open some files, the window sizes itself to fit vertically, but ignores that I have two bars in my taskbar. So the top of the window is above the top of my screen. I need to resize from the bottom corner and drag the window down to reach the title bar buttons. It remembers the new window size for a while, then goes back to the too large one, or minimizes again like markboonie was experiencing. Where is this behavior controlled? Is there some setting hidden in the preferences? Or is it a Windows issue? (I've got XP.)

I don't have admin rights on this machine, so I can't use the repair function. The help desk just uninstalls 8 and reinstalls 7, which I don't want to keep using. I had to impose on a coworker to get 8 installed again.

I'm having the exact same problem, and it's very frustrating. Documents open Acrobat in different-sized windows. Sometimes Acrobat is maximized and the documents are not; sometimes the title bar is above the top of the screen, etc. It would be nice if Acrobat Preferences would allow the user to lock the window size and force all documents to open to the size of window the user chooses.

P.S. I'm using Acrobat 8 Professional on a Windows XP Pro machine.

right click on the desktop shortcut that launches acrobat and/or reader. select properties. in 'run' property select 'maximized' from the dropdown. you can do this with any shortcut (desktop, start menu, etc.)
