Acrobat Pro resamples images

Does anyone know why Acrobat Pro (7.0.9) automatically resamples my images after editing? I have some scanned pages that I would like to make smaller in format by using the touch up object tool. The pages (images) are opened in Photoshop (9.0.2).
I change the image size, but the image is not updated correctly in Acrobat! It gets resampled!! It goes back to its original format, but with lower resolution. Please help!

My Product Information:
Acrobat Pro 7.0.9, Windows

I seem to remember a bug in Acrobat 7, although I don't know if it persisted in all maintenance upgrades. Somehow when files were dynamically updated they appeared at a different size in the PDF.

If you have a chance, you can rule out any user error by downloading the trial version of Acrobat 8 (ideally if you have access to a second Windows machine) and follow the same steps on the same file and see if Acrobat 8 behaves differently. If it does, you'll know you've definitely found a bug.
