Acrobat X-Remove Hidden Information vs. Sanitize Document

We're trying to figure out the difference between these two new options.

It appears that the difference is that "Remove Hidden Information" allows the user to select which objects to remove. It also removes bookmarks which "Sanitize Doument" does not do.

Does anybody know if there's a way to make selections with "Sanitize Document"? With the exception of bookmarks it appears that "Sanitize Documents" does a better job in removing potentially sensitive information.

Thanks.

Hi Ira,

AFAIK the ability to "select what to remove" is the major difference between Remove Hidden Info vs Sanitize Document. Sanitize Document just does it all in one fell swoop- it removes everything but what you can see.

Hope this helps,

HI Dimitri,

So "Sanitize" also removes bookmarks?

Is there a way to control what version of PDF the file is saved as. From what I can tell the remove or sanitize functions perserve the original PDF version. It is only when you save it that the version changes.

Siince we can have muliplte PDF versions going through the system we would rather not save all files at an arbitrary PDF version.

Thanks.

Ira

There is a video tutorial that explains the differences between Removing Hidden Info and Sanitizing a document. If you want to control the version level of the PDF and remove bookmarks then try using the Save As > Optimized PDF tool.

I was hoping there was a way to control it from within the two functions.

As things stand now, we first have to identify the PDF version, which the program currently doesn't distinguish between Acrobat 8 and later version. Then either sanitize or remove info. Then bring the collection of files back together.

If there was an option to save as the current version than automating this process would be much easier.

FYI. I traced the discrepancy to the save function in Acrobat. After you run sanitize or remove info the PDF version is preserved.
