Acrobat/Reader and proximity searches

Hi Guys,

I'm looking for a way to do variable proximity searching in either Acrobat or Reader (we're mainly v8 here, but Reader 9 is making inroads and I gues Acrobat 9 will hit some desktops by the end of the year).

Currently it seems that the proximity distance is set in Acrobat/Readers preferences, which doesn't allow the user to choose the distance with each search (aside from going into preferences and changing it every time). It also means that for say our web content management system, we can't use a custom link to a PDF that includes proximity (like you can for say page # and basic searching).

Has anyone else hit this? Has anyone come up with or found a solution?

Thanks
Craig

This is somewhat tangential to your topic however,
if you have not already read it, Duff Johnson's article (Learning Center: Tutorials) may be of interest to you.

thanks. Interesting read, but not overly relevant to what I'm trying to acheive.

I'm talking in-house content. It's been OCRed. I'd just like to be able to use a syntax, similar to what acrobat/reader already uses for jumping to Page# or canned search, to support proximity, where the proximity distance may be variable.
