I have a workstation with Reader 9.1x that will not search correctly within a certain PDF file. The same file can be searched on other workstations with no issues. If i do a search on a word that is clearly there, it will show a hit on another word or location other than the actual word. Like i said, it works fine on other computers with the SAME pdf file.

I have the same problem. I had 9.3.0 and upgraded to 9.4 the problem is still there. I can see the word clearly in the pdf document, however, if I use search or find, it will not recognize the word. the exact same pdf will recognize the word on another computer.

Have you tried to repair the Reader application?
What OS by name version and bit size are being used?

I know this is an old thread, but if like me you found it by searching the dreaded Google, it's worth noting that this is a bug and is fixed in adobe reader 10.1.0 where the search function works perfect. It even puts a square round the difficult words to find.

Unfortunately this appears to be a bug that was introduced in the recent 9.4.5 update. The search highlighting will be addressed in the next Acrobat and Reader 9 updates due out on the 13th of September 2011 as detailed in this technical note.
