Adobe Reader and Adobe Acrobat are PDF viewers. Acrobat is an editor and Reader, by default, does not permit editing. Both viewers are used with PDF documents. PDF is a file format (much like a .doc file saved from MS Word is a file format). Your Adobe Acrobat (or Reader) v7 will view and print PDF documents. No distinction there. There are about 350+ differences between Acrobat 7 and Acrobat 8. Likewise Adobe Flash Player is a viewer that enables you to view Flash files.
