Hello,

I have been unable to use Acrobat Professional to attach a .pdf to an email message without the program crashing.

Here is what happens:

1. I load a .pdf that I want to send.
2. in the file drop down I select the command to "attach to an email"
3. my Novell new mail window loads (I am using Novell Groupwise 7.03)
4. I attempt to type a message in the body of the email and the software crashes
5. I get the send to microsoft error window

Help!?

My Product Information:
Acrobat Standard 9.0, Windows

When this issue has come up in the past, it's been associated with the version of Windows Messenger that is installed. The recommendation is to make sure that the Windows Messenger version provided with the GroupWise installation is installed. lkassuba,

Thanks for your quick response. My IT guy tried this on his personal PC before I tried it -- he reported multiple errors, solved only by a full uninstall and re-install of all Novell components.

I have not tried this myself, but I will look for the approprate file at Novell. (I do not have the install disk, as I am using a "ghosted" laptop matching our school's loaded software.)

This is really curious, though. The feature worked flawlessly with the last version of Groupwise. I'm going to stick with it, though. As a school dept. head I am trying to coach my teachers to send docs. directly to students, and I have found that with, especially impoverished children (like some of the ones we teach), Word is not often loaded on a home computer. But -- of course -- everyone can use Acrobat Reader!

Any additional insights would be most appreciated!

Just curious -
Does the problem present itself when you have Groupwise open with a new email message window open to which you attach the PDF? In this case Acrobat would not be "speaking" to Groupwise.

No. When I create a message in Novell and use the attach feature everything is good. But, then I know all I am doing in that instance is adding a "static" file -- like anyone would for any file in a folder.

The issue -- and it seems minor even though I want an answer -- is that IN Acrobat with a .pdf loaded the drop-down under file (attach to an email) is what crashes Adobe. It would be best to fix this for two reasons: 1) we are starting to email forms around and when I type a form I want to use that feature rather than saving it and attaching it; 2) everyone I work with uses Word (I know shocking, huh?;)) and I want to have teachers save in Word, use the .pdf conversion button in the newer Word version (which works very well because we have the full suite of Adobe tools, including Acrobat Professional), and then WITH THE .pdf LOADED in the window they are still working in use the file drop down to send.

All of this is important as many of my teachers are not tech. savvy and as soon as they start driving to different network drives and using dialogue drop downs things get really ugly.

I'm trying to coach people to send cross-platform, cross-software compatible files (like ,pdf) in email as well as posting to forums and our new school website.
