batch merge or concatenation of documents

I'm using Acrobat 9 Pro and I'm new to Acrobat in general.

I have 500 clients who I want to send hard copy reports. There are 500 pdf files with graphs/data, and 500 pdf files that are customized business letters. They could be printed out and hand collated but I would like to automate a merge of the graphs pdf, and the letter pdf, for each client.

There is flexibility in how the files can be named, if that data can be used to match.

Is javascript the only way to accomplish this? I'm not asking for a finished script (I cannot pay) but any clues to send me in the right direction would be appreciated.

Are the graphs intermixed with the text? If so, you'll be better off using a composition tool (i.e., Word or InDesign) rather than Acrobat to merge the content. Acrobat is not designed to reflow page content.
For example, you can use the PDFMaker macro in Word to merge the content with a data source and then generate PDFs.

Here is some additional information on how to do this:

Thanks for responding.
No, the text and graphs are not mixed within documents.
I simply need to append one document to the other. There are two documents for each client and I would like to have an automated process to create only one document per client.
I was originally thinking that each document must be scanned for matching criteria.
Another option would be to have each pair in a seperate Windows folder. From that point I need to know if it's possible for Acrobat to programatically append each pair.
Or maybe there is a completely different approach that I haven't considered.

I am not sure but you mean that you wanna combine 500 PDF files into one? It must be a hard work if you try to finish the task using Acrobat. Though it has powerful functions, you still need to do that work manually. A better way is to refer to some app which can automatically do that work. As it is needed, you can try AnyBizSoft PDF Merger, which can merge many PDF files to one at a time. Maybe it is helpful and you can freely have a try.

I will try my best to help you in PDF converison fields, objectively and Neutral.
