Blank thumbnails

I am using Acrobat 5.1 to view scanned images.
When selecting the thumbnail tag the thumbnails are blank.
Whilst searching the web for a solution I have noticed that using acrobat to open various pdfs(but not all of them) I have the same blank thumbnail problem.
I have tried all the settings available in Acrobat to no avail.
Can you please let me know what to try next?

You should really look at upgrading Acrobat. However, I'm sure that you may have heard this before so let's move on to the problem.

In Acrobat 5 and lower, thumbnails for pages were not automatically created like they are in version 6 and above. You have to manually create the thumbnails. Open a context menu on a page in the Pages panel and choose Create Thumbnails. Doing so adds more size to your file, bu the thumbnail images are shown in the Pages panel.
