I have several PDF documents that I am linking to from a Table of Contents PDF document. I have all my bookmarks set up in the TOC, all link to the individual PDFs just fine. Of course when it opens the pdf it's linking to, my bookmarks go away since I set them in that first document. How do I get all those bookmarks to be duplicated in ALL the linked files?

I was hoping for an easy answer...like some magic button somewhere when you index or something lol.

My Product Information:
Acrobat Pro 8.1.2, Macintosh

Have you tried using a PDF package with Acrobat 8?
The package "cover sheet" would serve as the toc.
After view a PDF, return to the cover sheet (toc) by clicking on the cover sheet icon.
The Acrobat Help file provides discussion of packages and cover sheet options.
There are some good captivate presentations available at acrobatusers and in the education neighborhood at adobe.com

I have the cover sheet all set up, it's not really an issue. I don't think packaging is going to solve the problem unless packaging puts the same bookmarks in all linked PDF documents.

Can you copy and paste the bookmarks?

Well who knew THAT was in there! lol. Yes, that solved my issue quite nicely. The only other question I have then is I can't seem to find a way to stick the default view of that little control panel that lists all the documents in the pdf. On my mac it's on the left, on my customer's pc it's at the bottom which he doesn't like. Is that a user preference? Or can I make it at least default to MY way until the user changes it?

I do not know the formal name Adobe gives it; so, I'll call it the "Package Bar" (brown paper bag provided at no charge ).
On my Windows box, my default view of the package bar displays the package's PDFs on the left also.
On the package bar there are three icons that lets me set this to left, top, or minimized.
In the center of the package bar there is a navigation section. The file name of the open PDF is displayed.
This is bracketed by a "previous" (left side) and a "next" (right side) button.
At the right side of the package bar, there is the "Options" drop / pull down menu.
Package bar display options can be accesses/set from this as well.
Some screen shots below.

What makes me curious is how your customer gets it to the bottom of the screen.
I cannot replicate that. In Adobe Reader 8 and Acrobat 8 Pro, what I've described above is what I "see".
Interesting...

Icons for setting the package bar's document pane.

I'm not sure how he did it either, I may need to go check out h is machine and ask. I'm not able to get it at the bottom of the screen either. But I do remember doing something similar with the Comments List...I wonder if he has his comments list showing and thinks that is the navigation. hmmm.

Have your customer try this -
From the Menu Bar:
View > Navigation Panels > Reset PanelsA short while back I'd parked the Attachment paper clip into the left side, vertical navigation pane.
To get back to the default ( bottom, horizontal display) I just performed the above.
This might put the Package Bar back to its default as well...?
