Bookmarks set up to look like "Tabs"

I am a user that would like to set up tabs in a PDF to delineate different sections of the document, like a printed manual physically has on the right hand edge. I don't like bookmarks but would really like a "Tab" look. Can that be done and if so how.

I have Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional. Thank you for any assistance you can give me.

You can add buttons to the pages that when clicked will open a particular page.

Thank you for the response, I did find out how to do that which I just learned and is cool. But the only thing is I'm being asked instead of that way if there is a way for the "tabs" look instead of the bookmark look.

A button can be configured to look like anything you want by setting its Layout to something other than "Label only" and setting the icon to what you want. The source of the icon can be an image, page from another PDF that you create for this purpose, and a number of other formats.

Hi PennyD,

Ted Padova wrote a blog post about adding elements to a file in Indesign that went outside the boundaries of a PDF which would give the tab look you want-

I actually downloaded a sample file way back then and think this is a good fit. Unfortunately, the links in his blog go nowhere now :( Maybe you can do a Google search based on that information and find it.

Hope this helps,

Dimitri

To answer your question: No, bookmarks can't be made to look like tabs.
