Combine multiple ai files into one PDF with windows acrobat

Does anyone know why I can't combine multiple ai files into one PDF with adobe acrobat 9.0 running on windows when I can combine the same files on a MAC please?

The picture below shows that the ai files in the folder I've opened are not considered as a supported format in the windows version of acrobat. Yet as you can see I have a single ai file open in acrobat.

Thanks.

What you have open in Acrobat is not an AI file but a PDF. If you look closely at the "Combine Files" window in the background you'll see that the full file name is "briefing document.ai.pdf", so it's a PDF file.
If you want to combine those AI files I suggest you save them first as PDF from Illustrator and then combine those PDF files in Acrobat.

Thanks. The key point is that you can do this on a MAC, although not quite as I described. What you do is drag and drop all the ai files you want for the final PDF into the combine files window.

I just spent 20 mins on the phone to Adobe support and we ascertained that there is different behaviour here between the PC version and the MAC version of Acrobat.

Unfortunately our designers have built this feature of combining ai files in groups into their workflow practices, so if we move to PCs, they will have to change what they do.
