Hi,

Having recently upgraded to Adobe 9 Pro, I am trying to create a form that is backwards compatible (to Adobe 5). I optimized the form and can open it with v5 but some of the fields are screwy (i.e. checkbox is uncheckable) and some of the original text (brought over from Word) is showing up with spaces where there were none before. Also, if I try to leave the javascript intact I get all sorts of error messages so I had the optimizer discard the java.

Questions: First of all is there anyway to make the form fillable with Adobe 5? Secondly.....what is the oldest version of Adobe Reader that v9 forms would be compatible with?

My Product Information:
Acrobat Pro 9.1, Windows

Hi,

Not sure about AcroForms, but with Acrobat Pro 9 you would have a copy of LiveCycle Designer ES.

If you generate your forms using this, there is a very handy feature where going to File/Form Properties and Default Tab: you can set the version that you want the form to be backward compliant to (say Acrobat 5).

Then before you deploy the form, you can check the Warnings Tab to see if you have elements in the form that are not compliant with Acrobat 5. You can then deal with these warnings and when the list is cleared it should open in Acrobat 5.

A lot of new features are not fully backward complaint, like visibility of objects and custom checkboxes. But it might be worth a look.

Good luck,

Niall

Hope this helps,

Niall
