Conversion from MS Word hangs

Why does conversion of previously converted MS Word document hang? Have reinstalled Acrobat weekly (going on seven times) on two seperate computers with same result. The conversion starts and then hangs--no message.

Since this is a reconversion, I save it either with a new name or overwrite existing file. The tagging process starts. Get asked a second time to save the document either with a new name or overwrite same named file (don't understand why I get asked twice). The next dialog box shows progress. Never gets beyond the sixth bar and the text on the progress dialog box is replaced with boxes. It just hangs--no message.

Most conversions go very smoothyly and quickly. However, Acrobat seems to get corrupted after converting web pages or playing with other Adobe applications.

The PDF conversion settings include pretty basic accessibility settings (tagging, bookmarks--first 4 major headings, title page, preface, and table of contents, xrefs, and hyperlinks). MS Word documents are usually about 1 MB (under 150 pages).

Any help would be greatly appreciated. The IT guys are losing patience.

Hi mucket,

Can you provide more detail on the version of Word, OS, and Acrobat that you are using? Does this happen with one specific Word document or several? Have you tried to copy/paste the Word document into another file and then convert to PDF?

We have some excellent troubleshooting in a technical note at:

You can also try turning off the "Enable Accessibility and Reflow to tagged Adobe PDF" to see if it corrects the problem.
