I am using Acrobat 8 Standard and am having a very difficult time converting a PDF into an Excel file.
How can I do this?

I've tried converting into a word document, but at the end it says "Bad Parameter".

My Product Information:
Acrobat Standard 8.0, Windows

I haven't worked with version 8 for a while but it seems there is an option to export form data to a spread sheet in the Form > Manage Form Data. I believe it is something Merge files into Spreadsheet. It won't convert the file to and Excel file but simple convert the data to spread sheet that can be opened in Excel.

You can have a try about PDF to Excel Conversion tools. Maybe it is not easy for you to copy pdf data to excel spreadsheet, but the conversion tool can do that automatically.

I will try my best to help you in PDF converison fields, objectively and Neutral.

Can anyone help me convert pdf files to excel spreadsheets without formulas. I have tried copying to word first and had no luck as all the formatting was lost and it ended uplooking like something a spider had stepped in and spread over the page.
I have used Nitro in the past to convert word docs but they cannot convert to excel with formula's and I could not follow their support persons instruction on using OCR. I am not a technician nor an expert in computers so basic instructions are needed.
I am using the Reader X version and cannot find anything on OCR in the help files.

Hoping someone can help

Margaret,

Adobe Reader (any version) does not provide the capability of performing OCR.
Adobe's Acrobat X Pro or Standard provides OCR capability.

As well Acrobat X Pro or Standard permits you to save PDF files as Microsoft Word or Excel files, retaining the layout, fonts, formatting, and tables.

As to Excel formulas. When making a PDF from the Excel file only the shown output of a formula goes to the PDF. The formula does not. When exporting appropriate PDF content (typically information in a table) using Acrobat X Standard or Pro there are no "formulas" - just the content rendered on the PDF page.

Be well...

I am attempting to select a table in pdf doc and paste into excel using X Pro. I was able to do this with earlier version but not with X Pro. The result in Excel is the data comes in as sinle line without the table formatting. Have watched and read info on the site and the end result is garbage. Any ideas?

Paul - the copy/paste functionality is a little different in Acrobat X:

Using the select tool, drag to highlight the cell content within the table (do *not* shift-drag to select the entire table including the borders).

Right-click and choose "Copy with Formatting"

In Excel, click the dropdown arrow below the Paste button and choose Paste Special, then "XML Spreadsheet".

Bear in mind that if the PDF has been incorrectly-tagged, the cells may not be understood properly (especially if they span or have missing boxes).

Thanks, but that is what I have done. You mention "if the PDF has been incorrectly-tagged, the cells may not be understood properly". Thsi was a a very simple process in earlier version of Adobe and I used it for years to copy tables (without lines) out of pdf files and paste into Excel. Is there anything I can do to make sure it is "correctly tagged"? Thanks
