I have found only one reference to a problem that is similar to mine and this was not very helpful.
I have a persistent problem when using Acrobat to create pdf files from large MS Word documents. The problem occurs whenever the Word file is more than around 10 Mb.
The creation of the pdf file is slow and it never completes the process.
I have found temporary files such as PdM9A.TMP with a size of 524 Mb and Acr94.pdf. The latter is a complete pdf file as I would be trying to make and I am able to open this and save it as a new file for my use.
At the same time, the default printer is set as “Adobe PDF”.
Do you have a fix for this problem?
I am using Adobe Acrobat Professional version 7.0.3, Word 2003 SP3 and Windows XP Professional.
I have to say that I found the Adobe website completely unhelpful in trying to access resources to try to sort out this problem.
There are a few things you can try, although there isn't a 'fix' per se. How much time it takes, and the size of file you can process depends on your system resources.
Shut down any programs running in the background, as well as open programs to throw all the resources you can at Acrobat.
In Word, click Adobe Acrobat > Change Conversion settings and make sure you don't have features selected that aren't required for the finished file. For such a large file, make sure the option to view Adobe PDF results is deselected on the General tab. That can stall your conversion. As can tagging the file. If you don't need the tags deselect that option. Other items to deselect on the General tab include bookmarks, and links if you don't need them.
