Custom dictionary no longer accepts words with numbers

Hello,

In the past I've created a custom dictionary and added words that include numbers such as "24M", "ABE7CS00", etc.

I do this to prevent Acrobat from flagging our product numbers as spelling errors.

Now, I find I can no longer add such words, either manually or using the spell object in Javascript. Nor can I find the option that allows me to toggle wheter spellcheck looks at words with numbers or not.

Any help appreciated. Yours,

John

The dictionary functionality in Acrobat 8 is the same as version 7. A separate set of added and excluded words is maintained for each installed language. In the Edit --> Check Spelling --> Edit Dictionary select your Dictionary language and then if you select Excluded Words you can add numbers.

Hmmm... adding the alphanumeric word as an excluded word does seem to be permitted. Still, I think I'll send you some links with screenshots when I get back to work on Monday... very odd that I managed to "add" as opposed to "exclude" such words. Thanks for the response! John

OK --

I've posted a screenshot of my dictionary as it stands today -- complete with compound words made up of numbers and letters. Here is the link:

Why can I no longer do this? It is the easiest way for me to prevent overzealous flagghing of spelling areas in my documents.

Thanks,

John

What version of Acrobat were you using where you added words that included numbers?

It was either 7 or 8, probably 7. Weird, huh? The only thing I can think might have happened is that I experimented with a lot of plugins, and one changed the dictionary behavior. I'd like to rediscover that plugin! Let me know if anything else occurs to you, and thanks again. John

It may be a plug-in. I noticed that your screen shot had a lot of different toolbar buttons that are not standard in Acrobat. Is there any information on these 3rd party tools listed under the Help menu?
