Custom Resolution Preference

Why is the default display resolution setting "Custom Resolution - 110 dpi?" I frequently have to create PDFs from bitmapped graphics and have noticed that they're usually rendered as if a row of pixels is missing every so many inches. I've changed my approach to resize the original graphic to the Acrobat dpi setting for rendering graphics of that type and it seems to have helped, but it's a lot of work I'd prefer not to do. If using the system setting as my display preference has any affect on what I see, that'd be nice, but would the problem still occur on other PCs (with just the Reader or with a different display setting)?

In fact this is a very curious setting, the most frequently question that I hear is : "Why my doc have not the same size in Acrobat and InDesign? (or Photoshop, or Illustrator, or...)

I think that default setting should be "Use System setting".

I see this is a year-old topic, but we've only just realized that some problems we were having with flash video in our PDFs (similar to the missing row of pixels described above) is due to this very weird default setting, in both Reader and Acrobat Pro.

This has implications for the hundreds of folks who will purchase our multimedia training tools - do we have to have them ALL check their settings??

Any idea of WHY this setting was made the default, and if there's a down side to change back to the system setting, which as Merlin says, seems to be the logical choice??
