Deactivate and Restore

This is a (2) part question, why is my deactivate button greyed out and how can I guarantee that when I attempt to reinstall it I will not run in the issue of having Adobe say I have already registered it more than enough times? Second, how can I find out the actual cd key or serial number of the product since I lost the sleeve that held the cd key or serial number.
Thanks for any help in this matter.

If a copy of Adobe Acrobat is running normally (i.e. it hasn't been damaged) then a grayed-out activation menu item means you're using a volume license serial number. Although they don't require deactivation so you can just uninstall and reinstall Acrobat, unless you're an official user of volume licensing it suggests that your copy isn't legitimate. If it wasn't a boxed set and the disc came in only a sleeve, I would assume it's a pirated copy.

Thanks UVSAR,
However the copy is not a pirated version but a legal copy from Journey Ed, which is a software discounter for students, it came in a sleeve and cd key. The reason I was asking is that I plan on upgrading to Version 10, however I wanted if I decided to put this copy on my other computer, if I would have any difficulties, by removing and reinstalling.

If you've purchased a Student Edition of Acrobat 9 Pro, then inside the box (and yes, it's always in a box unless you purchased entirely by download) there will be an instruction card on how to submit a copy of your proof of identity to Adobe's verification service. When you're proven to be a qualifying student in the USA or Canada, Adobe send you back your serial number - so it's never printed on the disc or packaging. You install the software as a 30-day trial until you get the serial number back by email.

The rules changed in April 2010, with academic copies now called Student and Teacher Edition, and open to tutors and other academics - but again there is a proof of identity stage to complete. If your copy didn't include that, you should contact your reseller for clarification on what they've given you, or contact Adobe Customer Support directly and they will be able to assist.

Student or S&T licenses allow only one activation, and upgrade paths are not the same as for commercial versions.See THIS LINK for more info.
