In Acrobat 8 (standard) is there something I can set so when I open **any** PDF it will *always* display the thumbnails??

When working with a large batch of .pdf's all at the same time, it needlessly tedious and repetitous to enable the thumbnail view for each and every document.

Help??

My Product Information:
Acrobat Standard 8.1.2, Windows

Hi --

The opening view is specified on a document by document basis, not as a program default. If you were working with Pro, you could construct a batch sequence to run against the files that would save them with the thumbnail view displayed automatically for all files you've saved.

OK, I'm now running Acrobat 8 Pro.

How do I create a batch process to show the thumbnail view for *all* currently open .PDF files?

Mucho thanks!!

Batch processing is not available to the Standard edition.

If you are creating the PDFs change the default conversion settings.

If the PDFs are not secured, when you receive the PDFs set the Initial view for the doucment to be page only.

1. I **am** running Pro now.
2. I know I can create a batch process, I need to know the steps.
3. The PDF's are not secure.
4. I want the default view for the files to be the page AND the thumbnails.

Do not have any files open as Acrobat will consider them in use by another user and not allow them to be saved.

1. Close all the PDFs.
2. From the menu bar select "Advance => Batch Processing". Click on the 'New Sequence" button. Name the sequence "Set Initial View" and click the "OK" button.3. The "Edit Sequence" box will now open. Highlight the "Open Options" under the "Document" folder on the left side and click the 'Add" button.
4. Now, check the box next to the "Open Options" in the right window and the 'Set Open Options' box will open. Select the "Page Only" in the "Initial View" section and set the other options as desired and then click the 'OK" button.
5. Select the "Run commands on:" option as desired, default is "Ask When Sequence Run".
6. And the "Select output location" options.
7. Now click the OK" button to close the "Batch Edit Sequence" box.
8. Now click on the "Run Sequence" button and select the files and the output location and watch the process of the batch process in the status window.
9. When the window stops updating the batch is done. Check for any errors in the status window. and then click "OK" button.
10. Done.

What version of Acrobat are you running?

I'm looking at 8.1.2 Professional, and your directions make no sense - the various menu selections and options do not correlate to what you indicate.

There is just one additional menu in step 2:
Advance --> Document Processing --> Batch Processing

Ok, I finally managed to get it to work, but...

How can I automate this process so I don't have to sit here & click "OK" for every single file it processes?? I handle dozens of files in each batch, and that is needlessly tedious and time-consuming.Also, what setting do I need to change to get the files to NOT open in individual windows?? I **need** to be able to open multiple tiled windows in ONE Acrobat window for a drag-and-drop operation (this has been addressed in a different posting). I already know from doing this for years in Acrobat 5 that there's a limit of 20 files I can have open at one time.

However, since the solution for the drag-n-drop requires that the thumbnails be visible for each document, I imagine that I won't be able to have as many open at one time as I'm used to with Acrobat 5 - a limitation I'd actually like to be able to get around!

Ironically, this whole process is easier to do in Acrobat 5. Unfortunately, I'm migrating to a new machine that has Acrobat 8 Pro installed, so downgrading isn't an option.

Ergo, I **really** need to get this process working, as I handle literally hundreds of .PDF's each week!!

Help??

Thanks for your time - I really *do* appreciate the help thus far, I just hope you can provide me the means to get this running smoothly and unattended!

Set this option to "Selected Folder" and then make sure you place your PDFs into the specified folder.

This is a Preference that you set in Acrobat 8 Pro. Edit --> Preferences Document Category. Uncheck "Show each document in its own window (requires restart)".

Do you have to click OK for every file? Or is there a way to automate that too?

Never mind. I figured this out on my own.
