Answered

I am running Windows 7. I recently upgraded from Acrobat Pro 9 to version X. I am unable to delete blank pages after opening and saving a scan to pdf. When I try to delete a page, I receive a message that says the page is in use. I am only able to delete pages after closing the pdf and reopening it. I did not have this problem in version 9.

My Product Information:
Acrobat Pro 10.0, Windows

Since I posted my question on Jan 10, 2011 regarding the issue of deleting pages, I have discovered that I must close the PDF file and reopen it. I can then delete pages. I hope there's a fix for this issue in the near future.

I saw this thread but could not find an adequate answer. I just upgraded to Windows 7 and had to replace Acrobat 8 with Acrobat X. Now I can not delete pages as was so easy in the past. I keep getting a window that says can't delete that page because it is in use.

I must be missing something here. Can any one assist?

Sorry, forgot to leave an email in case anyone has this info. It is billvincent22 [at] gmail [dot] comThanks

At least I'm not getting the page in use error. But I do need to go thru the delete page process twice anytime I want to delete a page (first time does nothing, second time works). Very annoying. Any suggested fix for this issue?

Hey Merlin- you seem to be one of the fortunate ones not to be experiencing this unbelievable PITA problem of not being able to delete pages. this a key function in my job. i'm having to print select pages and then re-scan just to get what i need in a new document. my Acrobat X doesn't change any when i close the doc and re-open. i'm getting the "page in use" error message when trying to delete. went to adobe site to see about filing the report-a-bug problem but got turned off since it seems it will go into a dumpster somewhere. VERY PUT OUT WITH ADOBE FOR NOT SOLVING THIS PROBLEM

Why do you think your bug report will go to a dumpster? How is Adobe supposed to know about bugs if you don't report them?

I have a wor around for this issue. First extract all pages (do not check the delete check box). Then you can delet pages from the extracted PDF.

Extracting the pages before deleting the desired pages works well only if you don't have/need bookmarks.

Has anyone found a solution to this?
Tried to use UVSAR's form but Acrobat X is not listed.
I use bookmarks so the work around doesn't work.
PLEASE HELP! This is quite annoying!!!!!

I am having the same problem.

driving me BONKERS!

I had the same problem with OSX Tiger, in the finder... couldn't delete files, if the preview pain was showing them.

I can't seem to make sense of this.

I know this is user forum, but adobe must look here from time to time... i mean if they cared they would right?

I'll try posting in that form someone posted.

Delete in Pro Version 10, Control/Shift "D".
Insert " " " Control/Shift "I".

Works great! It's a shame that you cannot find these instructions out anywhere on the taskbar or the edit dropdown. No where do they tell you this.

Accepted Answer
What I found was that when I went to open a pdf in Adobe Acrobat X Pro it wanted to open each file in a PDF/A read only view. I changed the settings under 'Edit_Preferences' under document section box 'PDF/A view mode' changed the selection to "NEVER". Now when I open the pdf files I don't have any problem deleting or inserting pages.

I am now also running into the issue of having to do the delete pages twice before anything deletes. Anyone know how to resolve that?

I have also experienced the issue of having to try twice before pages will delete. When I responded to noodle1 last week after changing the Preference setting, I thought the issue was resolved. This morning, I tried several times to delete a page, and could only do so after closing Acrobat and starting over.

Have you tried updating to Acrobat 10.1.1 (released on September 13, 2011)

I just installed the 10.1.1 update this morning and rebooted. I still had to execute delete twice before the page deleted.

Autumn,

Thanks for the follow up. I'll keep an eye on this and see if there are any other fixes. One question. When you delete the page, are you clicking on the Page thumbnail in the pages pane and using your Delete or Backspace key on your keyboard (this is instead of doing it from a menu). I've seen some users have this work for them, instead of using the Pages delete button on the right side of the screen.

I've been using a delete pages button I added to the toolbar. I just tried clicking the page thumbnail and using the delete button on the keyboard and that worked the first time. Thanks for the tip. Since I prematurely accepted noodle1's earlier suggestion about changing the preferences, which did not produce consistent results, how will others in this forum learn about the thumbnail suggestion?

Autumn,

Unfortunately there is no way to change the Accepted Answer, but most users will jump to the end of the forum to see the desired fix. I'll re-state it here, in that hope.

Potential Fix:
Click on the Page thumbnail in the pages pane and hit your Delete or Backspace key on your keyboard (instead of deleting the page from a menu or button on right side of the screen). I've seen some users have this work for them.

Another Option:
I've also seen some users have issues if they double click the PDF icon from the Windows Explorer, instead of using File > Open (inside Acrobat). This may be why the issue is creeping back up.

Patch downloaded and installed. It did not resolve deleting issue. Just have to use the Control/Shift/D command twice for it to work. Really wish it would be fixed. Otherwise I love version X.
