deleting/editing text in acrobat 9 standard

I am able to create a new text box without any problems, however I only did that because the existing text I am unable to edit. It says the font isn't available. So I put the new box over the old text to "hide" it and visually looks fine, but doesn't print that way.

How do I remove the old text or at least get it so that it doesn't print it?

Acrobat Standard 9.1, Windows

With Acrobat Professional you could use the redaction tool.
However, Acrobat Standard does not include that tool.
Something also available with Pro, that may be available with Standard as well -

With your PDF open, bring up the print dialog.
File > PrintIn the upper right, look for "Comments and Forms"; below this there is a drop-down menu.
The selections permit including certain annotations into the print job.
These are:
Document
Document and Markups <---- if available, try this
Document and Stamps
Form Fields Only

>> if your pdf is proctected by a password (security), you would need to take off the security.>> the go to TOOL
>> Advanced Editing >> TouchUP Text Tool
* this will allow you to edit the text-like character from your PDF
