Hi santhics,

Here are some links for info on the .spdf file extension-

http://www.fileinfo.net/extension/spdf

http://filext.com/file-extension/SPDF

It looks like Oracle purchased the company SealedMedia where the extension originated.

Hope this helps,

Dimitri

No. The Acrobat file extension is: "*.pdf"; there is no special file extension for "searchable" PDFs.

Searchable PDFs...
PDF files with renderable text.
i.e., Output PDF file(s) from an authoring application
(FrameMaker, InDesign, Word Perfect, MS Word, CAD programs, etc.)
or
Scanned images, with textual content, imported into PDF;
IF OCR'd (the OCR provides the renderable text which may be "searched")

re: "Search index files of cataloged PDFs"
Using Acrobat Standard or Professional...
An index file (*.pdx), used to define a catalog for one or more PDFs may be created.
Adobe Reader does not provide this functionality.

Using such an index file, advanced search may be
undertaken with Adobe Reader, Acrobat Standard or Acrobat Professional.

Note that Acrobat Help states:

Quote:
To search a PDF index, you must open Acrobat as a standalone application, not within your web browser.
With Acrobat Standard/Professional it is possible to embed a search index in a PDF file.

Simple "Find" is available with Adobe Reader, Acrobat Standard, and Acrobat Professional.

re: "*.spdf"
As discussed in the links provided by Dimitri, "*.spdf" files are the output of a third-party
(not Adobe) application that post-processes PDF files. The "*.spdf" file extension has no
correlation with an output PDF file's "searchable" characteristics.
