Editing a PDF file from a scanner

Hi ,

I am scanning a page from a copy machine and it converts the scan to a PDf file. When I open up the file in Adobe Acrobat 8.1 I can't edit it. I looked at the function; Advnaced, Security, Show Security Properties and it shows that editing is all allowed.

Is there something I should be doing?

Thanks
Steve

It sounds like your scanner is just putting an image like a jpeg into a PDF, so there is no text just an image of a text page. If the quality of the scanned image is high enough one should be be able to use the OCR feature of Acrobat 8 Professional to OCR the the image and either create hidden text under the image or change the PDF to text and image.

Hi Gkaiseril,

Thank you for your reply. I did use the OCR feature and it did run but afterwards I still couldn't edit the document. For testing, I saved it as a "txt" file and it was editable but I lost all fonting.

Any other ideas

If you created an image with hidden text, you can not edit the visible text because it is still an image.
