I am an author and my web designer designed the book on Adobe. When he send me he proofs, I can only read them and then I had to take notes and send him the fixes via email which is time consuming and ridiculous. What adobe product do I need on my laptop so I can actually edit what he sends. Also, does he need to use a specific adobe product to give me access? Right now, he sends a huge pdf and I just see that little hand to scroll up and down. I actually need to make changes. Thanks, Kim Narisetti, Publisher, Urban Crayon Press

Hi,

If you truly want to edit the copy, you will want to explore using Adobe InCopy, which is essentially a Word processor that can connect directly to an InDesign document—likely the tool your designer used to build the book.

He could use Acrobat 8 to Enable a PDF file so that you can add comments to the PDF file, but you can only mark it up this way. He would then have to apply the changes. It sounds like you want to edit the text. Acrobat and PDF is not a good way to do this. If you had a full-blown Acrobat, you could do some, very limited text editing, but in an editorial workflow, InCopy is the way to go.
