Please fix this. It is forcing me to drop support for PDF as our Mac users can't easily view other users submissions, unless they use Safari. This includes myself, and it annoys me to no end since I switched to Mac from Linux.
I use s to allow users to see "attached images". currently I also allow these to be PDF as this works on all browsers for which Adobe supports a Plugin. Now that more users are getting Firefox/OSX it's becoming awkard that Adobe doesn't have a plugin for this combination. It will force me to drop PDF as a valid file format for "attached images" for our web-application.
This feature would really be tremendous… (it sounds strange to write this, when you see how basic it is: you can open more than 50 video formats with FF on a mac but not even a single pdf!!!). By the way, it does not sound like the FF team put much energy in providing native support in a near future. This plug-in is really worth being done. Please…
And for people using web apps like zotero, it would be a great improvement of the workflow…
The State of Ohio will be using Adobe forms for a new multi-million dollar application and it needs a way for FireFox to support PDFs. It appears you two having a feud and not thinking or caring about your users. This is very disappointing.
The plugin at the time was for the older version and older Mac OS and did not process forms correctly. Plus it forced a download which was not desired. When it effects 250,000 users, it has to just work like it does in other browsers.
Have you considered the Firefox PDF Plugin for Mac OS X 1.0.4?
Come on, have you ever tested it? This is what I got:
"To view the full contents of this document, you need a later version of the PDF viewer. You can upgrade to the latest version of Adobe Reader from www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.php For further support, go to www.adobe.com/support/products/acrreader.php"
And I do have the latest Firefox PDF Plugin for Mac OS X.
Yes, I test it at the time as did the vendor building the app. It was a key issue for a 30 million dollar project. It may be fixed now, but it was not at the time and Firefox and Adobe did not seem to care.
On a Mac you must use Safari to display a PDF inside a navigator window using the Adobe plugin, otherwise Firefox can use "PDF Download" but it doesn't support PDF's rich features…
Don't expect to see anything in 3D, nor any video, sound, swf, etc.
It would appear that speed is dependent on many factors. Here is one study that says firefox is much faster than safari: http://www.favbrowser.com/performance-firefox-vs-safari-vs-google-chrome-vs-opera/

Currently, Adobe is not working on a plugin for Firefox. However we may consider implementing this in the future.
