"fit width" shows different zoom level in Reader vs Pro

Hey all, new to the forums here. Didn't find the answer to this via Google search, or via forum search, so I figured I'd post and see if someone can shoot me straight on this.

The issue I'm having is this: Acrobat pro and Acrobat reader treat any PDF file I open as different sizes. That is, when I open someFileNameHere.pdf in Acrobat Pro, viewing at page width shows the zoom to be 63.4%. Opening the same file in Reader, viewing at page width shows the zoom level as 173%.

This is a normal 8.5" x 11.0" page. Clicking "actual size" in Reader zooms so that I can see about 3/4ths of the height of the page (and all of the width, plus empty margins), whereas clicking "actual size" in Acrobat pro enlarges the document such that I can only see about 1/4th the height of the document, and about 2/3rds of the width. Basically just zoomed way in on the top-left corner.

So far, this hasn't presented any serious problem, as we've always been able to work around it, but I was curious if anyone else had experienced this issue.

Acrobat Pro and Reader Version: 8.1.5
Monitor size: 1680 x 1050
OS: Windows XP Pro w/ SP3

Thanks in advance!

"Fit width" is a relative zoom setting, it sets the zoom so that the width of the page matches the width of the viewing area. The actual zoom level depends on the size of the window and the size of the document. So it's always going to be different unless you have Reader and Acrobat set to exactly the same screen size.

Fit "actual size" sets the zoom to 100%. How much of the PDF is visible depends on the size of the viewing area.

Ahh gotcha. After going into Preferences > Page Display, I realized that Acrobat Pro was using a DPI of 300, whereas Reader was using 110. Setting them both to the same resolution now makes 100% zoom in Reader look the same as 100% zoom in Acrobat Pro.Thanks for the help!
