I need to space out the characters in a text box, since I am placing text boxes onto a pre-existing form. In Office, it is referred to as "Kerning". Any ideas?

Try using the Comb field feature for Text fields. Open the Text Field Prooperties dialog box and deselect all the checkmarks in the Options tab to gain access to the Comb field attributes.
Acrobat does not provide kerning as an option in the field properties.
