Fonts default in pdf

I created a document in Quark Xpress, collected all fonts and images, then printed it to a pdf with Acrobat. I opened the new pdf and everything looked right. When I transferred it to another Mac and opened it, certain instances of one font defaulted to another font. The font appeared fine in other places in the document. Any ideas on what's happening?

Sounds like there's a problem with embedding, and the second Mac doesn't have the same fonts installed, so has tried to substitute.

On the PDF's Properties...Fonts tab, are there any entries listed which don't say "embedded" or "embedded subset", and are there multiple entries of the same font?

If you have Acrobat Pro there's a preflight operation to show any non-embedded fonts, and one to re-embed every font the document uses, which can help with the above. If you're using Acro Std the quickest workaround is to print from Quark using the "PDF/X-1a" preset setting in Distiller, as that will always embed every font. If an /X-1 version works on the second Mac, you know what the problem was.
