My problem is trying to print to PDF - The customer I am helping did not have the driver loaded so I am trying to load it. I walked through the steps you have given in the past:
"Do you see the Adobe PDF printer listed in your printers? If so, check to see that the following is set:
1. Open Control Panel / Printers
2. Right click on the Adobe PDF printer icon
3. Click on the PORTS tab
4. Check to see if the "Documents\*pdf - Adobe PDF Port" is selected"

But I am stuck on step 4 - I do not see in the ports My Documents\*pdf as one of the ports.
How do I add it back in....
Many advance Thank You's

hi,
have this problem: cannot remowe Reader 9.1.3. from my pc. System says 'programpackage cannot be opened, - may be it does not exist on the pc'.

If my program list mentions this version I guess it must be there or ...?

Thanks a lot

I have created a basic pdf document with links to other pages -

file attachments. Main (parent) document and first link works fine. I have links from within the linked

attachment to other attachments. I can move forward and back in acrobat between all documents, but when I tested it on another computer with only reader, once the first linked attachment is opened, it will not "go back" to the original document. I just need the end reader to be able to move (with the arrows) back to the parent document. I know this has to be simple, but I cannot get it to work. Help section only talks about links to attachments and not to attachments from an attachment. Tired of looking all over the internet for solution.

Any help. Thanks.

Hello, new to the board as I have a problem.
I have Adobe Reader 10.1.0 (I only use it to read PDFs sent to me).
When I receive a PDF document, there is NO Adobe tool bar at the top for me to select 'print, save, etc'. There is the browser toolbar and the first page of the PDF but no Adobe toolbar.
There is a 'floating' bar that comes up when I place the cursor over the document's first page; it is at the bottom in the center. It 'hovers' for a few seconds, then goes away. With the cursor remaining on the document, after a couple of seconds, it comes back, then goes away. This process repeats endlessly. This little toolbar shows the diskette symbol for 'save' and the printer symbol for 'print' plus some others to the right. Placing and clicking over either the save or print symbol does nothing. Nor does Ctrl+S or Ctrl+P.
When I had an older version of AR, the tool bar did appear at the top and all worked well. Somewhere along the way, I updated to 10.1.0 and now nothing is like it was.
What am I doing wrong?
=================================
'Tap' on the floating control bar? I'm talking about a monitor on a PC, nothing else.
'Press the key to bring up the menu bar' --- What key?

The UI has been reorganized for the many new devices (tablets, smart phones, netbooks, eReaders) with a very limited amount of screen real estate (viewing area) that include a web browser. You can tap on the floating control bar and bring up the menu bar or press the key to bring up the menu bar. The number of menu options has been reduced and the most of the tool bar buttons are not in the 'wells'.Grand Tour: Getting around the Acrobat X interface by Lori Kassuba

You can change your applications preferences for the default action, "Edit => Preferences".If you want this for each PDF, you will need to set the properties of the PDF's initial view to display the thumbnails page.

You could also add a document levle JavaScipt to open the thumbnail nav pane.\

this.pane = "Thumbnails";

asjkl,

What Error messages are you getting? Have you tried Help > Repair Acrobat installation? Also, it would help to know your operating system.

On adobe.com you can upgrade from Acrobat 7, 8, or 9 Standard to Acrobat X Standard. I'm sure they have a path from Acrobat 7 Pro to X Standard, but you may have to call 1-800-585-0774.

My CPA is sending me pdf's that I cannot read.
I continuously receive this error message, "Cannot find or create font 'Z [at] RE098 [dot] tmp'. Some characters may not display correctly" and boy howdy do they not! I get only dots or asterisks! I have Adobe Acrobat 9 Standard vs 9.4.6 The number for the font sometimes reads 'Z [at] RDB5D [dot] tmp'The pdf's were all created off of a state website regarding applying for a tax # and business license.

I am hoping you can find a solution.

I have tried opening on Windows Vista and Windows XP

You can try manually downloading the updates here. Although Adobe is ending support for Acrobat 8, the updates should still be available. Acrobat 8.3.1 is the latest, I'm assuming you are on Windows:
http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=1&platform=Windows

Generically, all product updates can be found here, simply choose your product & platform:

Toquas_Crafts,

I'm sorry I missed your post about fonts. It looks like your CPA is not building complete PDF files. There are 2 settings they can change to make this font error go away (the control over this is on their end, not yours). This depends on the method they are using to create the PDF (if they are using a non-Adobe method, such as freeware or shareware, I can't offer much help).

If creating the PDF from Microsoft office, using the PDFMaker plug-in (which installs with Acrobat):
1. Click on the Acrobat PDFMaker ribbon bar
2. (Office 2007 or 2010 applications) In the Acrobat ribbon, click Preferences or (All other applications) Choose Adobe PDF > Change Conversion Settings
3. Change the settings from "Standard" to "High Quality Print" (High Quality Print includes the Microsoft fonts, which aren't included by default

If they are Printing to the Adobe PDF Printer:
1. Go to the Start menu, clicking Devices and Printers
2. Right-click on the Adobe PDF Printer and choose Printing Preferences
3. UN-CHECK "Rely On System Fonts Only; Do Not Use Document Fonts"

Dear Acrobat Users Community,

printing a webpage from browser with Acrobat X produces a pdf file in form of picture/graph. I need to use "recognice text" function, which (i) changes the fonts (ii) recognized the text with some errors.

I saw that my friend's Acrobat 9 Pro produces pdf fully text recognized product.

I tried to change my Acrobat X from the properties of Adobe Printer, no way.

Any suggestions?

Thanks beforehand!

Bahti,

What Browser are you running (IE, Chrome or Firefox) and what version? What Operating System are you running? When you do Tools > Recognize Text it does it's best to match fonts that were in the original document, but depending on the original, this isn't always a perfect translation (that is expected behavior, Acrobat doesn't ship with a lot of font choices).

Were you and your friend trying the same page? If so, can you share the address so that I can test it?

Finally, if you own Acrobat (not the FREE Adobe Reader), can you try File > Create > PDF from Web Page? This method typically produces better results.
