Help! Adobe 9 Has Taken Over Picture Viewing Options

I just downloaded Adobe 9 after clearing 8.1.3 from my computer. The reason I deleted the previous version is because when I tried to open photos from "My pictures", Adobe Acrobat seems to have hi-jacked my previous photo-opening program (Windows Media Player) and now I just get a message indicating "Adobe Reader Could Not Open xxxx.jpg because it is either not a supported file or the file has been damaged, etc". If I remove Adobe from my computer, the photos will once again open correctly. Of course, I'd like to have both Adobe and a functioning program to open my photos. How do I go about fixing Acrobat to eliminate this problem? BTW, I'm running Windows XP pro. This problem surfaced when I returned home after being away from my computer for several months. The only changes I made were some automatic Windows security updates and a Java update.

My Product Information:
Acrobat Standard 9.0, Windows

So - if I understand you correctly - when you double click on an image icon on your windows machine, Acrobat launches ?

Okay, if that is it, this is not an Acrobat problem, it is an operator ignorance issue that I often suffered from, so welcome to the "I gots some windows learning to do club" to which I am a member and always proving how little I know daily to my kids...

(smile)

So, as my 11 year old explained to me - navigate to a folder / directory and click ONCE on an image file - then right click and a small menu should appear - select "Open With" - and cascade select "Choose Default Program..."

under recommended programs - select "Windows Media Player" and BE SURE to check that little box that says "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file.

if under recommended programs - you do not see "Windows Media Player" - just click over the "Browse..." button in the lower right and Navigate Program Files, Windows Media Player and select wmplayer -

hope this helps !

Thanks so much, Michael. I probably spent an hour on this before I posted. Still not sure why this had never occurred before, but I suppose I should direct my energies towards XMAS shopping or perhaps adopting an 11 yo guru.

enida, if you follow michaelejahn's advice you won't need to do it each time. After the first time the file format will be associated with whatever program you choose. Just make sure you check "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file."
