while viewing files, just started getting a checkerboard-like background behind all the text. Is there a way to disable this or turn it off?

My Product Information:
Acrobat Standard 6.0.6, Windows

This is probably the "transparency grid" option. Check under the Preferences to turn this off.

Would you know how to turn this feature off in Adobe 9 Pro Extended? There is no Transparency grid option in Adobe 9 and I have researched quite a bit and haven't found anything. It is tiny grey and light grey or white checkboard background behind a page or picture or webpage that opens. What I would like is my old white background back. Can you help??

Edit > Preferences > Page Display and uncheck "Show transparency grid".
