Can anyone tell me how I can edit/delete/replace an image in a pdf that has not been locked. I can't seem to do anything with the image, have tried right clicks, looked in the menus etc. Would be grateful for some help here.

I am assuming you know the Professional version has a touch-up object tool which will allow for this functionality.

I do not have Standard but you should be able to delete an image in View/Navigation Panels/Content. This produces a tree like structure which gives certain control over content - albeit very basic functionality.

Otherwise, besides upgrading to Professional, due you have any third party applications such as Enfocus Pitstop?

Jon

I've been using Acrobat since v1.0 and still get amazed by its power. An Acrobat ACE since 1999

Hello Jon,

thanks for replying. I'm finding Acrobat a bit frustrating, I can usually find my way around most new programs.

I have the view menu-navigation panels- but no content option

There does not seem to be any way to edit the images.

Could I send you a copy of the pdf? and see if professional does allow it. Then I will upgrade.

How do I place an image in a new pdf document, can't remeber how I did it before with the trial version.

I am having the same problem as elric. I cannot replace or edit an image with the TouchUp Object Tool. If you have any solution to this problem, I would appreciate knowing what it would be.

Acrobat is not an authoring program and any editing is very limited. The best possible way to perform these tasks is to use the original program to modify the original source file.

There is supposed to be a way to delete an image in a PDF. I did not create the original one. I only want to edit the one I have. It is very frustrating not to be able to perform such a relatively simple function.

the following tip assumes that the pages of your pdf file are 'images' (created from a scanner). you need to use an image editor like photoshop elements. extract each page to be edited to a separate file. open a single page PDF in PS or PSE. edit as needed. save as PDF. when all pages have been edited, assemble the new document using acrobat's combine files tool. apply Acrobat's reduce file size tool.

Hi,
Acrobat Pro and Pro Extended provides features for graphic/image object manipulation.
In the Preferences' TouchUp category an Image and a Page/Object editor can be designated.
If Adobe PhotoShop is installed, Acrobat will use it (by default) as the Image editor.

As to outright PDF Page Content deletion using Acrobat - often not a good idea as this can all too easily gobber a PDF.

As George noted above, PDF is not a "edit content, layout, format" file format such as is associated with word processors or page layout applications.

As Jon Bessant mentioned, an appropriate plug-in can work wonders.
Or, as Reid mentioned, export of image content for manipulation by an image editor may be practicable.

What works best will be predicated on which Acrobat is installed.
Again, Pro/Pro Extended can do more (much more) than Standard.

Be well...

Be well...

I agree, using acrobat to delete an image is complicated especially when the file it not the original one, I mean it locked. As acorbat is easy to edit and create PDF, why not convert the copy to word and then edit it easily and then create PDF from the Word? It is an indirect way but more efficient than using acrobat only.

I will try my best to help you in PDF converison fields, objectively and Neutral.

I tried to convert it to Word. When I did I still was not able to edit the file since it was basically a jpeg in a Word file.

I do not have Adobe Photoshop so it is not an option.

Hello & thanks for the community here!I tried this:
1. Open pdf
2. Sidebar "Pages" > delete page with picture I do not need
3. Document > Reduce File Size
4. Save

The pdf now does not show the picture any more, but size did not reduce...

How to delete "unused content"? Or how to show empedded pictures and delete them?

Thanks!

I was having the same problem. My "fix" to it was to use Microsoft Paint and create a blank image (just open a new drawing and save it).

I replaced the image I was trying to delete in the PDF with the blank one and it accomplished what I needed.

OK..

I've been reading all these posts and it's just very confusing.

I have Acrobat Pro 6.0 and Photoshop CS installed.

In Acrobat, I'm editting a document with images and text. The document was not created by me so I don't know how it was created.

All I want to do is to select an image in the PDF document and remove the image.

I tried using the Select Image Tool, which allowed me to "Select" the Image, but I cannot delete it, cut it or do anything with it besides copying it to the clipboard. Right clicking on the selected image shows a context menu with only the following choices:

- Copy Image to Clipboard
- Save Image As
- Add Bookmark
- Create Link
- Image Properties

I also tried the Object Touchup Tool, but this would not even allow me to select the image. Instead, when I tried to select the image, only the Frame of the page was moved, but not my image.

Am I hearing that Acrobat does not permit you to manipulate (cut/paste) images on a document that was not originally created by you?

I understand that Acrobat is not an image editor. All I am trying to do is to remove an image from the darn file.

I also attempted to save the PDF as a Word doc from Acrobat. But when I opened the .doc file in Word, the entire document was unorganized and most of the images were not where they should be.

I'm trying to update a Flyer for and ad for my company. All I want to do is to remove One image from the flyer and keep everything else the same and keep it as a PDF file. Why is this so difficult or impossible to do with Acrobat pro?

I even tried to save the document as a jpg. Yes. I can do this an manipulate it in Photoshop, but why doesn't acrobat support such a simple and common task?

If anyone has found a solution, I would love to hear it.

given that the entire page is a single image, your only option is to edit the page image in photoshop (or the budget priced, photoshop elements)
