How we use PDF packages
Our staff uses a one-page fillable PDF form and attaches supporting documents to it. These supporting docs may be pdf, jpg, doc, xls, ppt and so on. The staff person then must send this PDF package for approval to colleagues. Sometimes these colleagues add additional file attachments or make changes to the existing ones. So, we need the attachments to remain in their native formats.
The problem
Once everyone has approved the PDF form and the supporting attachments, we need to flatten the PDF form and all the attachments into one single (very long) PDF file. After searching the help files here and Googling it, it seems one can flatten the PDF package if the attachments are themselves PDF.
Partial solution
I know that one can combine other file formats into a PDF package at the start of the process. But this is not ideal for us as then the package pages are all PDF and not easily editable by colleagues.
Any solution?
So, we basically need a way to convert our attachments from doc, ppt, xls to pdf at the last moment and not at the first moment. (It is inconvinient to saved the attached files to a Windows folder, convert to PDF, and combine into the PDF package. But this seems to be the only solution.) All ideas are welcome.
A trial version could be installed on a test box for a look-see.
