Hi there,
I'm just a beginner to Adobe Pro8, and I am trying to convert a word document (ebook) to a pdf file. The file includes images and links. After finally figuring out how to format the file properly so I would not lose my formatting, now my images that once were converted ok, have turned to greyed out. I have tried publishing in several different settings and still no joy. Does anyone know why this has occured and what I can do to rectify the problem? Its so frustrating! I was hoping I'd be able to just push convert and my word document would be converted to a pdf, but alas, there is so many settings to change!

Any suggestions would be gratefully received.

Cheers,
Bec

What process are you using to create the PDF from Word? PDFMaker macro or print to the Adobe PDF printer? Do you have the Adobe PDF printer set as the default? Are all the graphics in the Word document embedded or imported by reference?

I have something similar. When I try to print the pdf file it is all black. The document has color and I am trying to print on a B&W Laser printer. I have tried to print in grayscale and that did not matter.

Have you tried selecting "Print color as black" (Windows) in the Print menu?

What type of printer/operating system are you using? Have you ever printed in grayscale with this printer?

I am using Windows XP and my printer is a HP 4100N. I have tried to print a color booklet cover that came out black, and Harry Reid's document about Rush Limbaugh which has some color in the header. I did try grayscale and it still had the douments come out all black or so black they were unreadable.

I would suggest trying these troubleshooting tips from HP when the documents come out all black:
"The print cartridge may not be installed correctly. Remove and reinstall the print cartridge.

The print cartridge may be damaged or may not be an HP print cartridge. Replace the print cartridge with a new HP print cartridge.

If the issue persists after changing out the print cartridge, contact HP for service options."

Put normal pdf files print fine. It is just the ones that seem to have color or something in the background. If Adobe will require me to spend double for a HP cartridge then Adobe needs to rethink things.

Yes, knowing that normal PDF files print fine is an important piece of information...
You can try printing a composite gray in the print menu. Print --> Advanced button (bottom of menu) select "output" from the list on the left side. Under the Color pull-down select gray composite. Be sure to turn off "Print Color As Black" in the main Print menu as this option prints all nonwhite color as black.
