I have Adobe Reader 8.1 on my Mac OS 10.4.10.

All of the sudden I can't view any images in PDFs. They appear as gray blocks. Or the whole PDF appears as a gray black. What happened? Thanks!!!

Try reinstalling Reader.

I have this problem too. I am using Acrobat Pro 8.0.0 on Win XP Pro. Any raster image comes up as a grey/black block, and so does a document which is scanned to PDF. Vector images are ok and so is type. The same documents show up fine for other users and I can open them in Illustrator so it seems to be just my installation of Acrobat.
I have already tried repairing the installation via Acrobat and reinstalling from the DVD.
Please does anyone have any suggestions?

I had a very similar problem. Suddenly some images would show but most were a gray box until I changed the setting under Edit > Preferences > Page Display > Show large images.
