Hi, I'm new,

I am cataloging a stack of cds, making pdfs of the contents of each one, and building an Index. (This part's going fine). When I search my index, I notice in the Results window each cd comes up as "Untitled," not the actual name of the CD.

I duplicated this problem by creating an InDesign document called "Scrap," making a 4 page pdf of Scrap, extracting each individual page and renaming it something different like Cow, Pig, Horse, etc., and then I built an index of those files. Again when I searched my Results window referred me back to "Scrap," not Cow, Pig, or Horse.

Can someone please tell me what step I am missing?

Thanks!

My Product Information:
Acrobat Standard 7.0, Macintosh

You are seeing the Title entry under the Description tab of the Document Properties for each of the extracted PDF files. Upon extraction, the source PDF file's name is being placed as the Title for each
of the individually extracted PDF pages.

Helpful most times as it provides a pointer to where the extracted page(s) came from.

When there is a Title entry for a PDF the search return will display it, not the filename.

If desired, use a batch sequence to load something else to the PDF files.

Be well...

Thanks for helping me understand what's going on. Is there a way to make the index recognize the new name of a pdf once I change it from its original name? Is that what you mean by batch sequence? If so will you please explain that process to me?

If the Title entry is empty search shows the filename.
If I understand your goal correctly, it looks like deleting the existing entry would meet your needs.

You can use the "Description" sequence to add/change/remove values for the fields Title | Author | Subject | Keywords which are under the Description tab of a PDF's Document Properties.

From Adobe's on line help: Mac OS - open the batch process preferences via Acrobat > Preferences. Then Advanced > Document Processing > Batch Processing.
n.b., I work out of Windows, so the following reflects Adobe's naming in Acrobat Professional for that OS - you may see some differences in naming but it all should be there...)

There are some sequences provided.
You'll see a dialog box the "out of the box" sequences and some buttons for working with existing sequences.
Use the button for making a new sequence (the predefined sequences
won't provide what you are interested in).

Provide the new sequence's name (say, "add doc description").
The dialog for editing batch sequences is now available.
Here, you can Select sequence of commands, Run commands on, and Select output location First, you select what you want (with the Select Commands button).
Now, locate the "Description" sequence from the provided listing.
Click "Add" then "Edit"

The default for Title | Author | Subject | Keywords is "Leave As Is".
Uncheck Title's "Leave As Is" - you can now enter something.
Leave the field empty and click OK
Second, select your desired "Run commands on".
(selected files, folders, ask when sequence is run, files open in Acrobat)
Third, select output locations.
(specific folder, ask, same folder as original(s), or don't save changes)
Last - select Output Options.
(file naming and output format)

You can now run the sequence across your selected PDF files.
Rebuild the index.
