Insufficient Data for Image

I have Adobe X Writer and utilize a Brother model MFC-J6910DW multi function scanner to scan docs. I send the docs to others and they get an error message of "insufficient data for image" when they try to open it. It appears version 9 gives this message whereas v10 of Reader can open the file. I most cases the other computers are corporate computers and they cannot upgrade to V10.
 
How can I save the file so those with version 9 of Reader can open the file?
