Is it possible to sign or certify the whole PDF Portfolio?

Signing or Certifying the whole portfolio is supported by PDF and Acrobat X?

We are discussing an Acrobat X project with an state government agency in Brazil that already publish digitally signed PDFs (version 1.4). They are considering to use PDF Portfolios to package various official documents and asked us how our solutions can authenticate that the whole portfolio is an official document.

My understanding is that it is not possible to digitally sign or certify the portfolio.

How can we reply to this need?

It is possible to sign the 'cover sheet' of the PDF, and lock out changes to the entire portfolio. However, the signature appearance / validity for the portfolio will ONLY be displayed on the cover page.

We'd like to be able to show this UI across the portfolio, and we are working on the best way to visually represent this in future versions of the product, as child documents are not 'individually signed' but essentially 'group' signed. It requires some different icon conventions then we have now.
