using Acrobat 7.1.0 created pdf with publisher, using link action=open a file; selected a pfd in another folder then open preference = new window. Save pdf and copy to network. another user opened pdf and clicked on link and got "there was an error opening this document the file cannot be found". I also loaded files in "attachment" tab to no avail. It seems that you be able to link to a file in attachment tab?! Appreciate any help. Thanks

My Product Information:
Acrobat Pro 7.0.1, Windows

Both PDF files, maintaining their relative locations (folder hierarchy) must be transferred to the network share.

Thank you for your response. My goal is to email this pdf to a large group and I tried it on the network just to see if it worked. How would you email it?

kloogye,
If the target PDF files are located where others do not have permissions for access
(e.g., the HDD of a local machine) then an email with the Publisher output PDF (containing links) as an attachment is a dead end.

If the target PDF files and the PDF from Publisher are adjacent to one another in a folder
on your local machine then you could attach all of them to the email.
In the email's body you could explain that all attached PDFs need to be saved to a common location.
Identify the "link" PDF to open first.
The downside of this is that the total size of the attachments may exceed the value for either your email service or that of one of the recipients.

An alternative is to place the collected PDFs on a network and provide a link to the Publisher output PDF via an email.
Say you've a network share assigned the letter "S"; Enterprise_Library (S:)
In S:\ you have a number of directories, one of which is "kloogyes_share"
(S:\kloogyes_share\)

On your local machine you have:

c:\new_to_share\thePDFfromPublisher.pdf
\pdf_files\file01.pdf
file02.pdf
...
...
file0n.pdf

File "thePDFfromPublisher.pdf has the links to the PDFs file01, 02, ..., 0n.

Copy file "thePDFfromPublisher.pdf" and folder "pdf_files" (with its contents)
to S:\kloogyes_share\

Email the link S:\kloogyes_share\thePDFfromPublisher.pdf

Provided those who receive the email have access to the S:\kloogyes_share\
(read, file scan at least) and Adobe Reader or Acrobat installed the
PDF will be rendered, the links, with a correct link path & valid target,
will function.

This last "process" has worked on a Novell WAN; does work on an AD WAN as well as on intra-net and internet web sites.
